World Heart Day

World Heart Day takes place on 29 September every year and is a chance for people across the globe to take part in the world's biggest intervention against cardiovascular disease (CVD).This year's theme for WHD is Creating healthy, heart choices for everyone everywhere. By ensuring that everyone has the chance to make healthy heart choices wherever they live, work and play, World Heart Day encourages us all to reduce our cardiovascular risk, and promotes a heart-healthy planet for those around us.


World Obesity Day

Say No to Obesity

Obesity is a condition in which there is accumulation of excessive fat in body tissues. Although it can be caused by genetic factors, yet it is most commonly caused due to over-eating, reduced physical activity and sedentary lifestyle. It has become a serious public health challenge especially affecting the younger population that is paying a heavy price for its fascination with junk food. The burden of disease has shifted more towards lifestyle diseases with population being increasingly affected by diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol at an early age.


World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day, on the 14th November every year, has grown from humble beginnings to become a globally-celebrated event to increase awareness about diabetes. November 14th is a significant date in the diabetes calendar because it marks the birthday of the man who co-discovered insulin, Frederick Banting. Banting discovered insulin in 1922, alongside Charles Best.

The theme of World Diabetes Day, from 2014 to 2016 will be healthy living and diabetes and this year, there's a focus on starting each day right by having a healthy breakfast.
